Modesto, CA

The building is a free-standing branch bank, located in a shopping center on McHenry Avenue, the principal commercial strip of Modesto. The owners wanted strong visual attraction, spatial openness, and customer access. The design attempted to respond to the climatic extremes and to reflect the agro-industrial vernacular of the Central Valley. The 4,400-sq.ft. building is exposed poured-in-place concrete with steel trusses spanning the banking space. Floor finishes are ceramic tile and nylon carpeting. The main space features a tapestry designed by Frank Stella.
