Napa, CA
A year-round dwelling for a poet and her companion, to be built in the family compound, secluded on the edge of a rocky canyon, overlooking the Napa Valley. Internal spaces are minimal and are organized vertically to minimize the building footprint on the land and to maximize the area and angle of the solar-collector roof. The living areas are oriented to the views: east and west sides of the building are double exterior walls that contain porches, loggias and sunscreens to modulate light, space, and views.
